Members are assigned to groups of approximately eight people. Members are encouraged to attend three ‘cook-at-home’ dinners with their assigned group. One person in each group is designated as the ‘Keeper of the Pot’, who coordinates all events with their group. The Keeper will coordinate the date, the hostess home and time for each cook-at-home dinner. Together, they prepare recipes from a menu provided by the club and are obligated to share the cost of the meal, excluding beverages, table decorations, etc. Each year a cookbook is chosen for purchase by members. Recipes and menus are chosen from this book by the Menu Coordinators and distributed to all members.
The Cooking Club provides you with two professionally taught cooking classes to be held at the Community of Harbor Bay Isle Community Center. The fee for both classes is included in your dues.
There are two optional food-related field trips in the Bay Area, which are not included in your dues.
Additionally, the entire membership comes together at a Kick-Off Party in September, a Holiday Party, a Cook-Together Theme Party, and an End-of-the-Year Party/Annual Meeting.
To apply for the Cooking Club, submit a completed application, along with a check (in the amount of $70.00 per person), made payable to CHBI Cooking Committee. Mail to: Joann Blas, Membership Coordinator, 18 Purcell Drive, Alameda, CA 94502. Dues are to be paid by August 31 of each culinary year.
Cook, enjoy, and share food expenses for three cook-at-homes with your assigned group, as well as the cook-together theme party. Attend cooking classes, and enjoy all other field trips and events. Help set up and clean up at group events.
Please join us for a fun year!
May you cook with joy. Bon Appetit!
